I am in the process of choosing which tractor to buy. The purpose of this tractor would be to mow a 2 acre hillside yard, brushhogging feilds, tilling, landscaping and driveway upkeep. Both of these tractors are comparably priced so that is not a factor. Any input or information would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jerry

When I hear about mowing on hillsides the first thing that comes to mind is the possibility for rollovers. How steep is the hill? Some tractors not mentioned (Ventrac is one brand) are designed specifically for hillside stability. ....

As Ken has already mentioned, working on hills and slopes is a hazardous and difficult to quantify operation. The maximum tire width and wheel weight possible will make for the most stability attainable. Then is a matter of finely calibrating the SOPTM. Have you looked at or considered a John Deere 990. That is one heck of a nice tractor for the price and very reliable as well as durable. ....

Seeing that you have a host of other uses in mind, I would buy the best overall machine, not necessarily the one that is best for hillside use. DON'T mow sideways on a hill. Back directly up the hill instead. Make sure you are in 4WD, and don't accidentally slip into neutral. That is the only "stable" configuration on a hill. And... it it feels unsafe, it probably is. IMHO, go for the Kubota shade of orange. Nothing against Kioti, but Kubota has more dealers out there for support, and legendary reliability. ....

I can't say enough good things about Kubota. I would go with them over any brand. I just bought my second Kubota in 10 years. I looked at them all but Kubota never let me down before why not be loyal. We all have our opinion. Go sit on them all and see what feels right to you. Then look at the specs. You also need to see about service (if needed) and the dealers attitude to answering questions.
